Rikei Hosts a Company Visit for Students from Kyoto Municipal Saikyo Junior High School and High School
Rikei Corporation (Headquarters: Shinjuku, Tokyo; President & CEO: Satoru Isaka; hereinafter referred to as “Rikei”) is pleased to announce that it welcomed five students from Kyoto Municipal Saikyo Junior High School and High School on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, as part of a company visit.
Purpose of the Company Visit
Kyoto Municipal Saikyo Junior High School and High School conducts hypothesis-testing fieldwork with the mission of “exploring ways to realize the ideal future we envision to secure happiness in the years to come.”
As part of their group research during this study trip, a group focusing on the theme “Building a Nation That Protects Its Citizens from Disasters” visited Rikei and participated in fieldwork on disaster prevention measures utilizing the latest technologies.
Activities Conducted During the Company Visit
■Lecture on Communication Technology in Disaster Situations
The students explored the hypothesis that “decentralizing political functions could prevent political dysfunction in the event of a large-scale disaster, such as a major earthquake directly hitting the capital.” In this context, they identified communication technology as a key factor and sought to deepen their understanding.
Rikei provided a lecture on its disaster-resilient long-distance wireless LAN system, which builds on expertise gained from operating the J-Alert system. This practical example helped students better understand how communication technology supports disaster response.
■VR Training for Disaster Mitigation
Students participated in a “Landslide Evacuation Training VR,” based on the 2018 Western Japan Heavy Rain disaster, to simulate disaster scenarios and understand the importance of preparedness. They also experienced a “Fire Evacuation Training VR,” which allowed them to practice choosing appropriate actions during emergencies. These hands-on VR activities enhanced their understanding of disaster mitigation and the importance of timely decision-making.
