Since various disasters have occurred across Japan recently, it is important for apartment buildings where it is estimated that more than 10% of the nation’s residents live, to be proactive in disaster prevention activities and disaster preparedness. The “VR Fire Drill,” service for apartment residents developed by combining DAIWA LIFENEXT’s expertise in solving problems in management association activities and Rikei’s technology of VR contents creation, has been well received by many management associations while repeatedly improved and expanded its contents since the launch in November 2021.

Now, it has been decided that the service will be adopted by Kobe City as one of the contents used for disaster prevention awareness activities. The service will be used as hands-on content at Kobe City Citizens Disaster Prevention Center, as well as at disaster prevention events at Kobe City Fire Bureau and educational institutions, in order to raise disaster awareness and self-help skills among citizens.

About the Contents to be Introduced to Kobe City

Basic Edition of Fire Evacuation
In apartment building where many people live, each resident is required to have correct knowledge about fire evacuation, and especially in large or high-rise apartment buildings, it is necessary to choose the most appropriate evacuation method according to the fire situation from many options. The content explains key points for proper evacuation from a fire in an apartment building through realistic VR images as if residents were at a fire site.

Balcony Evacuation Edition
In the event of a fire in an apartment building, residents may be unable to exit through the front door, or unable to use the stairs or elevators. To prepare for such situations, it is important to have the knowledge how to evacuate from a balcony in advance.
With a realistic 360° image, the VR gives the proper use of evacuation equipment unique to apartment buildings, such as “partition board” used for evacuation to a next room’s balcony and “emergency ladder” used for evacuation to a balcony below.

In addition to the above two services, the “VR Fire Drill” provides a variety of disaster prevention contents specialized for apartment buildings.
