Product overview of RIVR, disaster training VR

Recently, Japan has been hit by major disasters, but education on disaster prevention is insufficient. Rikei is developing technology that allows users to simulate scenarios related to disaster prevention measures, such as natural disasters (earthquake, fire and flood) and disaster response (self-defense and firefighting) using VR. More than 30,000 people have experienced this technology to date. It has been introduced in more than 300 locations in Japan, the most domestic locations for technology of this kind.

The VR content is available for custom orders, allowing the background and settings to be changed. In addition to ready-made goggles, Rikei offers made-to-order goggles. They are available in a variety of specifications, including compound and monocular lenses. One project uses a mechanism to convert fluids or raw data that has not been converted into VR into video.

•  Fire evacuation: Simulating poor visibility due to smoke during a fire
• Torrential rain: Simulating the heavy rain in Western Japan in 2018
• Earthquake: Simulating the shaking of an earthquake to teach measures such as securing furniture and preventing glass from scattering

Future development

Rikei will exhibit RIVR at DCEXPO (concurrently held with Inter BEE 2020, from November 18 to 20), which features an area for matching advanced content technology in Japan and overseas with creators and development partners. In addition, Rikei will give a technical presentation at TechBiz Creation & Matchmaking pitch session workshop (tentative name). With the support of Tech Biz, Rikei will accelerate the overseas expansion of VR for disaster training.
