Rikei Corporation (Headquarters: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; President & CEO: Satoru Isaka; hereinafter “Rikei”) is pleased to announce that it has signed a new distribution agreement with ATEME SA (Headquarters: France, CEO: Michel Artières, hereinafter “ATEME”,) and has begun selling products from ATEME, a global leader of video compression and delivery solutions with approximately 1,000 customers around the world, including broadcasters and video distributors.

About solution from ATEME

ATEME provides audiences with a stress-free premium viewing experience through low-latency, high-quality video delivery solutions on any platforms, including OTT (*1) and IPTV (*2). Namely “TITAN Series” delivers low latency and high-quality transmission of live video and other materials, “NEA Series” efficiently instream　advertisements based on viewer’s interests on video distribution sites, and “PILOT Series” manages video distribution operations etc., providing a comprehensive range of functions essential for video content distribution.
In addition, it is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions since the products are software that run on general-purpose servers or public clouds without depending on specific hardware, saving infrastructure costs for purchasing and managing dedicated equipment.

*1 OTT: Over The Top. Contents and services such as message, voice, and video provided over the internet without relying on telecommunications carriers or Internet Service Providers (ISPs).
*2 IPTV: New service that allow users to watch a wide selection of movies and programs anytime they want by connecting their TV to a network.

Usage of TITAN”, “NEA”, and “PILOT” Series

Background of the market

In the broadcasting industry, fierce market competition is taking place in areas such as the shift to IP based broadcasting (*3), simultaneous distribution, higher image quality such as 4K for video distribution, and reduction of distribution costs. As a result, there is a growing demand for automation and labor saving in distribution systems to invest more human resources in creative aspects such as production of contents.
By combining ATEME’s products, which have lots of global media companies as clients and have been the first to implement and provide the latest technology in the industry and Rikei’s experience as a system integrator, we will provide optimal solutions to these needs and issues.

*3 IP-based broadcasting: It is to change facilities using coaxial cables called SDI (Serial Digital Interface) to facilities using Ethernet/IP cables. SDI is a high-speed serial interface standard mainly used in professional video equipment.

Future Development

Rikei will make proposals to broadcasting stations and video distribution companies in Japan to meet their demands for new construction and renewal of equipment.
