Rikei Corporation (Head Office: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; President & CEO: Satoru Isaka; hereinafter “Rikei”) is pleased to announce that it starts to provide a content for landslide disaster experience/training utilizing virtual reality (hereinafter “VR”) that jointly developed with Higashihiroshima City Fire Department, and Hiroshima University.
The VR content simulates events that may occur in case of landslide disaster on VR space utilizing field survey on the Western Japan Heavy Rain Disaster in 2018 that jointly conducted by Higashihiroshima City Fire Department and Hiroshima University Resilience Research Center. It is the first VR for landslide disaster throughout Japan, jointly developed by a university, a local government, and a private company intended for landslide disasters caused by torrential rain.
Evacuation training VR for ”Landslide Disaster”
~Learn from the Western Japan Heavy Rain Disaster in 2018″~
Evacuation training VR for Landslide Disaster simulates the Western Japan Heavy Rain of 2018, including the pre-disaster weather conditions as well as the damage to the residential area. By experiencing the simulation, you will have a better understanding of how to escape from danger etc.
Sample video of the VR content:
- 360-degree immersive images. (Operations such as looking deep into/crouching down are possible.)
- Simulate disaster-affected situation on VR space, based on torrential rain in Western Japan in July 2018.
*The content was created with the cooperation of those who were actually suffered from the disaster.
Background of the Development
It became clear that the most important issue is whether preparation and decision on evacuation can be done properly according to the survey that jointly conducted by Higashihiroshima City Fire Department and Hiroshima University Resilience Research Center on the Western Japan Heavy Rain Disaster in 2018, along with stories heard from people who has actually suffered damage from the heavy rain. The scenario of the VR was created based on the above consideration.
Rikei is focusing on not only VR but also disaster prevention related activities. In order to raise disaster prevention awareness of more people, we are developing VR content that allows people to experience river floods due to heavy rain, etc. in addition to landslide disaster for mountainous areas
