— Heat Up the Rio 2016 Summer Games! — Rikei Starts the Provision of Short-Term licenses for “FileCatalyst,” Transferring a 10 GB File in 1 Minute and 23 Seconds

Rikei Corporation (Head Office: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; President & CEO: Satoru Isaka; hereinafter “Rikei”) would like to announce that it has started to offer short-term licenses for large file transfer solution “FileCatalyst” created by Unlimi-Tech Software, Inc., (Head Office: Canada; CEO: Chris Bailey) for which Rikei acts as a distributor in Japan.

Short-Term Licenses

The Summer Games kick off on August 5, 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. To broadcast the games in Japan, large video files need to be transferred over a global link. Using traditional methods, it takes 3 hours and 55 minutes to transfer a 10 GB file over 1G connection from Rio de Janeiro to Tokyo. However with “FileCatalyst,” it only takes 1 minute and 23 seconds to transfer the file securely.
For those who want to securely transfer large video files such as 4K and HD files without being impeded by network impairments such as latency or packet loss, we will provide short-term FileCatalyst licenses.
Shortening file transfer time will result in securing sufficient time to edit video content, allowing video editors to deliver more compelling video content to viewers. Cost reduction can also be expected as the number of editors required to be on-site can be reduced

Overview of FileCatalyst

By utilizing the self-developed UDP*1-based protocol, FileCatalyst makes it possible to securely transfer files at high speed around the globe or even over satellite links without reducing the data transfer speed, while ensuring data integrity. It is also equipped with advanced features to manage and schedule file transfers, enabling effective and fast large file transfers to remote locations.

*1) UDP:A connectionless transport protocol, which does not guarantee in-order delivery of packets or packet loss, but instead runs very fast with light loads

Features

  • Application charges are not on a per-machine basis
  • Maximum concurrent sessions: 1,000
  • Able to send only the incremental differences (Delta File Transfer)
  • Easy mobile uploads
  • Auto-resume*2, MD5 checksum*3, AES*4encryption, and other features

*2) Auto-resume: A feature that, when a file transfer is stopped in the middle, automatically resumes from the point where the transfer has stopped

*3) MD5 checksum: A value that is used to verify whether or not data is corrupt by creating and checking a 32-digit “checksum”

*4) AES:The Advanced Encryption Standard, which was established as the standard for data encryption by the U.S. government

  • License period: Two months
  • Price: 10 Mbps throughput: 230,000 yen (excluding tax)
