Rikei Corporation (Head Office: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; President & CEO: Satoru Isaka; hereinafter “Rikei”) is pleased to announce that it starts to sell a new product, “PowerUPS” by ReQuMuM (formerly MIS; Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President & CEO: Teruo Matsuoka; hereinafter “ReQuMuM”).
“PowerUPS” is an electrical storage apparatus that is a combination of “Powershuttle”, a mobile battery that can charge tablet or smartphones quickly, and a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) that can charge 24 units of tablets/smartphones at a time.
- Charge 24 units of PowerShuttles (mobile butteries) simultaneously.
- PowerShuttle is equipped with 5V-2A output USB port so charge smartphone quickly.
- PowerShuttle can be charged quickly in about 1 hour (about 90 times) thanks to PowerUPS.
- BMS (Battery Management System)(*1) is equipped to monitor each battery cell(*2) and prevent accidents such as firing in advance.
- PowerUPS unit is equipped with a 1kWh (kilowatt hour) UPS, and can charge to the PowerShuttle even during a power failure.
(*1) BMS (Battery Management System): A system manages total voltage, remaining capacity of a lithium battery, and voltage/temperature of each cell by monitoring in real time.
(*2) battery cell: cell refers to a component unit of a battery. What connected and packaged multiple cell is generally called a battery.
Recently, various natural disasters such as earthquakes and floods have occurred in every region of Japan, and business and local governments are raising interest in formulation of BCP (Business Continuity Plan) and disaster prevention measures. Therefore, the number of companies and municipalities introducing UPS (uninterruptible power supply) is increasing for the purpose of secure emergency power supply as reinforcing BCP countermeasure.
In addition, the ownership rate of smartphones in Japan exceeds 70%, and the importance of smartphones with various functions such as telephone, Internet, email, SNS, and map information is increasing in case of a disaster. As a solution to the smartphone charging problem at the time of disaster/emergency, PowerUPS enables battery charging of smartphones and tablets stably under any circumstances.
Rikei will expand the business to local governments, companies that take disaster prevention measures, universities, and event venues across Japan.
